Overview
Los Angeles has specific duct contamination issues that make professional cleaning more important here than in many other cities. Wildfire events — more frequent and more severe in recent years — push fine particulate matter and combustion byproducts into home duct systems even when windows are closed, because HVAC systems draw outdoor air through gaps in the building envelope. The 2025 Eaton Fire left particulate contamination throughout homes in Pasadena, Altadena, Arcadia, and neighboring communities. Standard filter replacement alone does not address contamination that has settled inside ducts and on coil surfaces.
Beyond wildfire smoke, LA's construction activity is a constant source of fine dust. Is duct cleaning worth it in Los Angeles?
For homes with allergy sufferers, pets, post-renovation debris, or visible mold, yes. For a clean, well-maintained system, cleaning every 5–7 years is appropriate. We'll inspect and give you an honest assessment before recommending cleaning.
How long does duct cleaning take?
A typical 2,000 sq ft home with a single HVAC system takes 3–5 hours. Larger homes or multi-system homes take proportionally longer.
Does duct cleaning disturb asbestos?
If your home was built before 1980 and contains asbestos duct insulation, duct cleaning can disturb it. We perform a visual inspection before starting and will stop work if we suspect asbestos. Asbestos testing and abatement must be done before duct cleaning in that case.
Can duct cleaning reduce allergy symptoms?
It can help by removing accumulated allergens — dust mites, pet dander, mold spores, pollen. Combining duct cleaning with a quality air filter and UV air purifier provides the most comprehensive allergen reduction.
Do you clean dryer vents?
Yes. Dryer vent cleaning is an important fire safety service. We clean dryer vents at the same time as duct cleaning for a package price.
How do I know if my ducts are contaminated?
Signs include visible dust blowing from vents, musty odors when the system runs, increased allergy symptoms, and visible mold or debris in accessible duct sections. We can perform a camera inspection to assess conditions.
Will duct cleaning make my home smell better?
Often yes — especially if there's pet dander, mold, or bacterial contamination. We apply EPA-registered sanitizer in cases of mold or bacteria for additional odor control.
Do you clean the air handler coil as part of duct cleaning?
Yes. Evaporator coil cleaning is included in our full duct cleaning service. A dirty coil is a major source of mold growth and restricted airflow.
