Common questions about air balancing in Los Angeles
Why is one room always hotter than the rest of my house?
Almost always a duct or airflow issue. Common causes: insufficient supply air (undersized duct branch, damper closed too far, long duct run with too many bends), poor return air coverage pulling conditioned air out before it distributes, or duct leaks losing conditioned air into the attic. We diagnose with airflow measurement before any intervention.
What does air balancing cost in Los Angeles?
Air balancing for a typical single-family home runs $250–$550 depending on the number of registers and the scope of adjustments required. If duct repairs are also needed, those are priced separately. We provide a written estimate after the initial measurement assessment.
Can I balance my HVAC system myself?
Homeowners can partially adjust airflow by opening or closing supply register damper blades. However, changing one register affects all others, and without a flow meter you're guessing. Proper balancing requires measuring actual airflow and understanding the interactions between register adjustments.
How long does air balancing take?
A full air balancing service for a typical home takes 2–4 hours depending on the number of registers and complexity of the duct system. Homes requiring duct modifications or sealing take longer.
Will air balancing fix my humidity problem?
Partially, if the humidity problem is caused by conditioned air not reaching certain rooms. If the humidity problem is system-wide, it may indicate an oversized AC that cools without completing a full dehumidification cycle — a different problem that air balancing alone won't fully resolve.
Is air balancing different from duct sealing?

My contractor said I need a bigger AC to fix my hot room. Is that true?
Very rarely. Upgrading equipment to fix a hot room almost always fails because the problem is in how air is distributed, not how much the equipment produces. A properly balanced duct system on a correctly sized AC will outperform an oversized AC on an unbalanced system every time.
Does air balancing work on older duct systems?
Yes, though older duct systems with significant leakage may benefit from sealing before or during balancing. We assess duct condition during the diagnostic phase and tell you what the ductwork can support before recommending a balancing approach.
