What Los Angeles Homeowners Say
“LC replaced our entire HVAC system — new Carrier condenser, furnace, and coil. Leo walked us through every option without pressure. The install team was professional and clean. System runs perfectly and our electricity bill dropped about 30%.”
“Had LC install a Daikin mini split in our 1940s bungalow that never had AC. The work was clean, the unit is incredibly quiet, and our bedroom finally stays cool in summer. Highly recommend.”
“Got quotes from four companies. LC was the only one that actually did a Manual J calculation and explained why our old system was oversized. The new properly-sized Trane system cools better, runs quieter, and costs less to operate. Should have done this years ago.”
Brands We Service & Install for AC Installation
Air Conditioning Brands We Install
- We install and replace central air conditioning units from Carrier, Lennox, Trane, Goodman, Daikin, Mitsubishi, Rheem, Hisense, LG, and Samsung. Whether you need a new air conditioning unit for a whole-home retrofit or a matched system with your existing furnace, we size equipment with Manual J and pull all required permits in Los Angeles.
- AC service and installation go hand in hand — if your current air conditioning unit repair costs exceed half of replacement, we explain both options with rebate eligibility and projected energy savings.
How We Size Your New AC System in Los Angeles
- Proper equipment sizing is the single most important factor in a successful AC installation. An oversized system cools the house quickly but shuts off before completing a full dehumidification cycle — leaving your home feeling cold but clammy and causing the compressor to short-cycle, which dramatically shortens equipment life. An undersized system runs continuously on hot days, never reaching the setpoint, consuming excessive electricity without maintaining comfort. Both problems result from the same mistake: skipping the Manual J load calculation.
- LC Heating & Air performs a complete Manual J calculation on every installation. We measure your home's square footage, ceiling height, insulation R-values (walls, attic, and crawlspace), window area and orientation (south and west-facing windows add significant heat gain in LA), number of occupants, heat-generating appliances, and the local design temperature for your specific neighborhood. The San Fernando Valley has a design temperature of approximately 105°F; coastal areas like Santa Monica use 88°F. This difference alone can change the required tonnage by 20-30%.
- After the load calculation, we add a safety margin appropriate for your microclimate. Valley homes get a slightly higher margin because extended heat waves with multiple consecutive 100°F+ days are common. Coastal homes get a lower margin because nighttime marine layer cooling provides natural recovery. The result is a system that maintains your desired temperature even on the hottest day of the year — without the energy waste of oversizing.
California Rebates & Incentives for New AC Systems
- California offers some of the most generous HVAC rebates in the country, and Los Angeles residents have access to multiple programs that can significantly reduce the cost of a new AC system. The TECH Clean California program offers rebates up to $3,000 for qualifying heat pump installations. SCE (Southern California Edison) offers additional rebates of $500-$1,200 for high-efficiency cooling equipment. SoCalGas provides rebates for qualifying furnace replacements that are often paired with AC installations.
- To qualify for most rebates, the new system must meet minimum efficiency requirements — typically SEER2 16+ for central AC and SEER2 18+ for the larger rebate tiers. The system must be installed by a licensed contractor (CSLB license required), and proper permits must be pulled and passed. Unpermitted installations are not eligible for rebates and may void manufacturer warranties.
- LC Heating & Air handles all rebate paperwork and documentation. We identify every applicable rebate during your estimate appointment, apply them to the proposal, and submit the documentation after installation is complete and inspected. Most rebate checks arrive within 8-12 weeks after submission. We've helped hundreds of LA homeowners claim rebates that reduced their project cost by $1,000-$3,000.
What to Expect on AC Installation Day
- A standard residential AC installation takes one full day — typically 6-8 hours for a straight replacement and 8-10 hours for a new installation with electrical work or ductwork modifications. Our two-technician crew arrives in the morning with all equipment pre-staged. We lay protective floor runners, set up the work area, and confirm the installation plan with you before starting.
- The installation process includes: removing the old outdoor condenser and indoor evaporator coil (and furnace, if included), setting the new outdoor unit on the existing pad (or pouring a new pad if needed), installing the new evaporator coil, connecting the refrigerant line set with properly brazed connections, pulling a deep vacuum on the refrigerant circuit to remove moisture, releasing the factory refrigerant charge, connecting the thermostat wiring, pulling the electrical connections from the disconnect to the new unit, and running a complete commissioning test.
- Commissioning is the final step and it's critical. We measure the superheat and subcooling of the refrigerant circuit to verify the charge is correct. We measure airflow across the evaporator coil and compare it to the manufacturer's specification. We check the temperature differential between the supply and return air (typically 18-22°F in cooling mode). We verify the thermostat is calibrated and all safety controls are functioning. Finally, we walk you through the system operation, filter location and replacement schedule, and warranty information. You get a complete commissioning report and your registered warranty paperwork before we leave.
